Trainee SHE Officer

Role Objectives:

  • Provide SHE advice and support to managers and staff
  • Support the regulatory compliance programme
  • Monitor and report on SHE performance
  • Promote good SHE practices, behaviour and culture

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support ongoing compliance with the requirements of the site’s Environmental Permit, including periodic statutory reporting requirements.
  • Support compliance with appropriate industry national and international standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO45001
  • Provide SHE advice to management and staff to raise standards across the site.
  • Monitor any incidents, near misses and exceedances, providing support for investigations and the implementation of improvement actions.
  • Monitor SHE performance and help to ensure all SHE regulatory compliance submissions and reports are duly made.
  • Carry out inspections, audits and surveys to assess compliance with company policies, standards and procedures.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of the SHE agendas, advising site management on current and anticipated initiatives.
  • Undertake any other duties for which the responsibility, skill and experience required fall within a post holder’s expected capability, and commensurate with the post holder’s position in the company.
  • Assist in implementing new and changing SHE legislation and good practice.
  • Support the preparation of risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Prepare and deliver SHE training packages.
  • Assist in ensuring that emergency response and security arrangements for the site are suitable and adequate.

Skills

Essential:

  • Basic knowledge of safety, health and environmental legislation and practice.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • IT literate, with competence in the use of common applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

Desirable:

  • Some knowledge of Health and Safety regulatory compliance requirements in the chemical industry.
  • Familiar with Management Standards (ISO14001, ISO45001).

Education/Qualifications Required

Essential:

  • Good general standard of education (to A Level or equivalent)
  • Health and Safety Qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH Certificate)

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards).
  • Environmental qualification (or working towards)
  • Recognised auditor qualification
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (or working towards)
